It was under the impetus of a Belgian, Joël Halbardier, that the Saint Alphonse Brewery was created in 1998 in the commune of Vogelgrun near Neuf-Brisach, less than a kilometer from the German border. This microbrewery markets a dozen beers, including several limited editions…

The Saint Alphonse microbrewery is named after the patron saint of the commune of Vogelgrun. It is the pride of the inhabitants of this small locality of 650 residents in the heart of Alsace. The creation of Saint Alphonse Brewery stems from Joël Halbardier's passion for beer, its environment, and its production.

Beer is a magical drink, created by the four elements: air, earth, fire, and water. A wonderful combination of these elements transforms barley and hops into this clear, sparkling, and bubbly drink, protected by a thin, stable, and creamy foam. This alone is worth a passion,” explains the brewer on his website.

Saint Alphonse may be a microbrewery, but it produces several brands and nearly fifteen different beers.

Saint Alphonse, the greatest selection

Under the Saint Alphonse brand, you will find:

  • Saint Alphonse Pils 4.8%: Light, this Pils is very refreshing thanks to the use of aromatic hops and specific yeasts, and a long low-temperature fermentation process. A long aging period in the tank gives it softness and finesse. It is only available in kegs (20 and 30 liters) and is perfect for bars, restaurants, or large occasions.
  • Saint Alphonse blonde (gold cap): This blonde beer, with an alcohol content of 6.5%, surprises with its lightness in the mouth. Brewed with barley and wheat malt, it has citrus aromas that testify to its purity.
  • Saint Alphonse amber (red cap): This 7.5% beer seduces with its complexity as it is brewed with three malts and flavored with two hops that give it a slight caramel taste.
  • Saint Alphonse brown (blue cap): At 8.5%, this rare beer is characterized by its voluptuousness and power in the mouth. The bottle fermentation can increase its alcohol content. It is brewed with three malts and flavored with three different hops.
  • Saint Alphonse triple (white cap): With 8.5% alcohol, this beer reflects the authenticity of the brewing method inspired by the tradition of the greatest Belgian beers. Blonde and golden, slightly sparkling, it has a very fruity aromatic power, derived from a unique yeast.
  • Saint Alphonse IPA: Delicately dry-hopped with a very aromatic hop, this IPA is very refreshing, very fine to taste with the hops gently taking precedence over the malt.

Meid'la, a nodding label

The Saint Alphonse Brewery also extends through the Meid’la brand, with its pretty labels that evoke what it is in Alsatian: a young girl!

Six flavors are available under this brand.

  • Meid’la, fille d’Alsace: A top-fermented, unfiltered blonde beer, Meid’la is brewed only with Alsatian hops. Relatively light, at 5.5%, it nonetheless exudes great aromatic power due to the Aramis hop with a very present malty envelope.
  • La Meid’la Blanche: A pure malt beer, with a high proportion of wheat malt, giving it lightness in the mouth and a slightly tangy note. It is brewed without added spices and is characterized by its fine and delicate aromas.
  • Meid’la amber: A 5.5% amber beer, with a reddish-brown color, this unique beer with toasted and slightly caramelized malt flavors offers lightness and smoothness in the mouth. The hops used (Bavaria and Slovenia) bring a subtle bitterness.

Besides the three beers mentioned, the Saint Alphonse Brewery offers a cherry-flavored Meid’la, a Christmas Meid’la, and a spring Meid’la, the latter two being seasonal. The spring Meid’la is an amber beer with 5.5% alcohol and brewed with barley and wheat malts. It features citrus aromas. Finally, three other beers complete the Saint Alphonse Brewery’s offerings: Pays de Brisach, Colmar Tradition, and Saint Alphonse Kinoa. All offer an authenticity with exceptional taste.
